Protect Air

PROTECT AIR

 What is Protect Air?

Airfuse Protection of personnel, machinery and equipment

The Protect Air modules operate in a manner analogous to that of an electrical safety switch, and quickly and safely seal off any compromised compressed line section within a fraction of a second when it senses an excessive flow of compressed air through it.

Why is Protect Air important?

HoseGuard by Protect Air is the small investment that protects against major losses!

Do you comply with ISO4414-2010?

"When faliure of a hose assembly of plastic/ rubber piping contstitutes a whiplash hazard, it shall be restrained or shielded by suitable means in addition an air fuse for compressed air should be mounted"

Situation 1:
A flange just behind the compressor becomes loose over the weekend, something that occurs with surprising freqency. Throughout the entire weekend, the compressor attempts to keep up the pressure by continuous operation. Many thousands of cubic meters of compressed air escape and are wasted, plus an enormous amount of electrical energy is consumed, and at some point the compressor may fail due to the overload of trying to continuously supply air to the line, so that the entire system is shut down come Monday.

Situation 2: A hose to pneumatic equipment separates from the connector or quick couple and whips around for work area. This can not only injure personnel and damage equipment, but can also spread contamination in the room and cause loss of production. The OHS consequences are dramatic in this example and are a major reason why all businesses using compressed air should utilise the Protect Air system on their compressed air lines.

HoseGuard®

The Protect Air system comprises a range of different products including HoseGuard. HoseGuard offers simple but efficient protection of a broken compressed air hose. The air supply is immediately shut off by the HoseGuard unit should the volume of air exceed a set value. This 'value' is factory preset and is set to allow normal air consumption when using air tools.

Should the air consumption exceed the set value, for example if the air line is severed, then the internal piston instantly shuts off the main flow. An integral bleed hole allows some air to flow through. this enables the line to automatically reset the HoseGuard unit once the main line break is repaired.

HoseGuard is installed between the air compressor and the supply lines, at withdrawal points and at the powered equipment. Unaffected line sections remain pressurised, and Protect Air itself allows a low residual rate of flow that slowly re-pressurises a new line after replacement of the defective one; after the pressure reaches a normal level, the burst protector automatically resets itself.

What are some of the features of HoseGuard?

⇒ Compatible with all pneumatic systems
Maintenance friendly - repairs are possible while plant is still operating
⇒ Cost Savings - has the ability to reduce electrical costs for compressors by switching off airlines where leaks are prevalent
⇒ Reliable and tamperproof - no adjustments necessary; pressure range is factory preset
Can be used as a flow blocker

HoseGuard complies with strict new European safety standard, EN983, ISO4414-2010 and revisions, and is available as a standard 1/2" model in stainless steel. Other sizes are available.
